In talking with staff members from a variety of nonprofit organizations, it seems that communication/marketing is one of the last things to be fully integrated into an organization's strategic planning and one of the first things to be cut when time, money, or both run short.

Should it be like this? How important do you think marketing is to an organization's overall success? How can organizations successfully market themselves when staff members are already busy with more mission-specific projects?
